You are always welcome to have friends and family perform instead of hiring a professional, and that can be quite fun for all involved. We understand that hiring entertainment specialists is not in the budget for every event, however you may want to consider if saving money is your only determining factor.

Entertainment can make or break an event and hiring an amateur may mean an awkward, stressful, or even embarrassing situation for you and your guests. A professional provides peace of mind and can handle any challenge or unexpected complication. A professional performer puts in dedicated rehearsal and preparation time for your show, not to mention coming to you with thousands of dollars invested in training, travel, costuming and more to bring you a sensational performance and expert entertainment.

Dancers will not solicit tips from guests, but if guests chose to tip on their own accord, they may hand the tips to the dancers directly. Tips are not to be placed in the dancers costume, inappropriate behaviour or harassment will not be tolerated (see above). Any tips given to the dancers are theirs to keep, in addition to the full payment amount.

The dancers often have multiple shows per night, and it is important that they stay on schedule. We understand that events often do not run on time, and the performance time can be flexible within 30 minutes. Any longer than this and there may incur an additional charge of $50 per half-hour or part-of. Dancers may need to leave to make it to other shows. This will be discussed with you when booking to be sure there is enough time between the dancers’ commitments. If you anticipate your event may be unpredictable time-wise, this would be a great thing to let us know about ahead of time, at booking, so it can be factored into planning.

A dance set is usually 5-15 minutes for a solo performer, or up to 20 minutes for multiple performers (usually 2-6 dancers). A set is recommended for parties, corporate events, weddings, etc. If you would like to fill a longer period of time, it is suggested to book multiple sets to work with your guests attention span.

If you’re looking for a longer show, a custom production can be created with a variety of acts, costumes, music, and props for a dynamic and engaging event.

Seraka Dance Company does not usually perform “traditional” styles of belly dance such as Egyptian, Greek, Turkish, etc. While the dancers’ base training has roots in these historic Arabic and folkloric dances, the group has integrated movements and vocabulary from their training in ballet, lyrical, and jazz dance.

Contemporary dances are set to neo-classical, indie, or peaceful/ambient music and tend to feel more emotional showcasing fluid movements, soft pauses, clean lines, breath, and elegant shapes.

Fusion dances are often set to electronica, pop, or remixed world music and presents as edgier with sharper or contrasting movements, unexpected shapes, strong lines, and more showmanship or tricks.

If yo’d like to see more classical styles of belly dance at your event, please advise this at time of booking.

If you have a more conservative crowd, costume options with more coverage is easily requested in advance. There are many different acts available to suit a wide range of interests.
